Exercise & ICDs – Young ICD Network

Exercise & ICDs will be the focus of the next Young ICD Network meeting on Thurs 26 June at the Energize Health Club in Belrose.

The group is organised by the Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) for people under 50 years of age (or those young at heart) with an ICD or considering an ICD.

The next event – Exercise & ICDs; a Toolbox of Ideas & ICD Essentials – will feature presentations from:

  • RNSH’s exercise physiologist Kirsten Jennings, who will talk about safely exercising with an ICD
  • Martin Dunkerley who has an ICD and owns the Energize Health Club. Martin will talk about his exercise “toolbox” to show what works for him and give some ideas that you might be able to use to discuss a suitable program with your cardiologist
  • RNSH cardiologist/electrophysiologist Dr Logan Kanagaratnam who will talk about the essentials of the ICD – how they work, why we need them and address some FAQs.

The night will finish with a Q&A session and light refreshments to give you a chance to ask queries, talk to the experts and chat to other young people with ICDs. Family and friends are also welcome. See flyer for more information.

RNSH cardiac nurse and ICD support group coordinator Ann Kirkness says: “The aim of this session is to provide education, support and an opportunity to meet and connect with other young people with ICDs. Last meeting went really well and people stayed on long after the presentations to chat to other people.”

If you know of any other younger people with ICDs, please let them know about this event.
